Inspired by the idea to unite people through giving, the global movement Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 by Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact in New York City. The idea was to harness the power of social media and the internet to connect and encourage people around the world to give back to their community during the Holiday Season. Then and now, givers are invited to take action to give through donations, volunteering, and acts of kindness.
"Spark radical generosity in your community by taking the Giving Tuesday #5x5Challenge! All it takes is two easy steps. On Facebook between November 26 and December 31, (1) Donate $5.00 then, (2) Share and tag 5 friends to do the same. See, it's really that easy.
Your starting gift of $5.00 could turn into $30.00 when each of your friends donate. Then, each of their donations could turn into $150.00 and before you know it, your gift has multiplied into our end goal of $1,000.00, . . . or, dare we say, or more.
As always, your donations support the construction of affordable homes for local, low-income families of Cherokee County, OK.
Need more motivation? Anonymous donors are going to match the first $160 donations! That gives us a jumpstart of $320 with the first 32 to donate!
What are you waiting for?! The peer-pressure is on! Make your $5 donation now to help build affordable homes and spark radical generosity in your community!".
ONLINE DONATIONS to Tahlequah Area Habitat for Humanity are always welcome.
You can also participate locally in this event by making a material donation to the ReStore Home Improvement Store or Rack Clothing Store.
