We want to thank Ruben Gildenhuys and Neriah Wharry (both pictured below) for serving as AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) Summer 2021 Associates at Tahlequah Area Habitat for Humanity.
AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates serve at nonprofits nationwide in June and July with the mission to dedicate their summer to help end poverty. Gildenhuys and Wharry were placed with Tahlequah Area Habitat for Humanity to provide direct service in support of affordable homeownership. Gildenhuys worked alongside our construction supervisor, Ty Hemken, working on construction and critical repair projects.
Hemken said "Ruben is the best young man coming into the workforce I have ever worked with and I want him back!" Wharry worked in the ReStore, where she helped process and shelve donated items and interacted with the public in the capacity of customer service. Jane Davis, AARP Volunteer, observed that "Neriah is a smart and outgoing young lady with the will to learn new things."
Thank you both for choosing to spend your summer with us. We have enjoyed your company, and appreciate the help you provided. We wish you the best in your future endeavors, and welcome you anytime you wish to visit!
